Oxycodone Addiction Treatment Medication

Narcotic Addiction Medication

Medication, in the form buprenorphine, is available for those needing medical assitance with oxycodone withdrawals.

Treatment with buprenorphine, aka Suboxone ®, can assist with those that have severe physiologic addiction to oxycodone.

Oxycodone is sold under the trade names Percocet ®, Endocet ®,and Roxicet ®.  These trade name versions are actually oxycodone plus acetaminophen.  (aka Tylenol ® )

Treatment with Suboxone  ®, for oxycodone addiction, must be performed under that guidance of a physician trained in its use.  Suboxone ® is a agonist antagonist medication.  It helps alleviate the withdrawals of oxycodone cessation.  An induction appointment is necessary where the prescribing physician monitors the patient as then start buprenorphine, and stop oxycodone.  After the induction appointment, most patients are seen on a monthly basis, where their prescription is refilled and their progress monitored.  After a successful transfer to Suboxone ®, and cessation of oxycodone, a patient can be stepped off of Suboxone ® gradually.  The treatment on Suboxone ® helps to maintain patient functionality.
